Oliver!

From 12th December 2008 to 27th March 2010, Jodie Prenger starred in the West End production of Oliver! as Nancy. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, the show was held at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane, alongside the likes of Rowan Atkinson, Omid Djalili and Griff Rhys Jones. Receiving outstanding reviews, the show was seen by almost 1.5 million people and went on to be nominated for three Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival.

Jodie’s performance as Nancy, one of the rare compassionate members of Fagin’s gang and someone who cares dearly for Oliver, was universally praised as an explosive and passionate turn for the then up-and-coming actress, and one that had many mistaking her for a seasoned veteran. Jodie won the part after competing in the BBC One competition I’d Do Anything, battling fierce competition from other theatrical hopefuls.

Prenger delivers her big number with passionate fervour. She is even better in the raucous Oom-Oom-Pah where the stage fills with Hogarthian detail as plump women retch into buckets and copulation thrives in the dark corners of the Three Cripples pub.The Guardian
